Introducing Joshie boy (Part 1 Clearing out)
Josh is an old friend UHGU who is helping us grow in new and exciting ways. Over the past year, Charles and I have been telling Josh about the joys of our hydroponic exploits. To which josh often replied something along the lines of:
“Sounds great, glad you guys have found a way to garden in your apartments, but wouldn’t you want to garden outside if you could?”
To which our answer is…
HELL YES!
You can only do so much indoors under lights before you run out of space and or money for the power bill. This is where Josh stepped up in a big way. You see, fairly recently he became the first person in our group of friends to be a property owner and that means space for a garden!

There was only one catch….

Introducing Joshie boy (Part 1 Clearing out)
Three Crape Myrtle stumps right in the area that was to be our farm. So, we set out with shovel, hoe, rake, axe, and come-along to conquer the beasts. Here was the idea:
-Remove the stumps
-Remove landscape bricks
-Extend the width of the patch by about 1ft by removing grass.
-Line the area with landscape timbers to create raised bed
-Till
-Bring in topsoil to fill

Four hours later…

Introducing Joshie boy (Part 1 Clearing out)

We were able to accomplish the first three objectives. The building and filling will have to wait for Part 2 . Our dream for this area is a large number of 2-3 plant short rows. Possibly including a drip irrigation system fueled by General Organics. Hey its not hydroponics but it sure is going to be tasty! Plus I don’t see myself fitting sweet corn in a growlab any time soon.
